NANO- A boost to India's technological Innovation

When sometime in 1995 Mr. Ratan Tata announced that TATA group would be coming out with Rs. 1 lakh car there was strong criticism from almost every section of the society. Be it environmentalist or industrialist. Every one had their own reason of disagreeing to his idea. But this man kept his promise and came up with the common man car. Seeing the importance and criticality of the project he gave it in an experienced hand of Mr. Girish Wagh. He was given a time frame of 30 months and was told to start from scratch. He choosed his own set of experts and came up with the dream car in stipulated time. People say that the condition in India is not suitable for innovation but while saying this they forget that those who are coming up with new innovations are working in the same condition.
In his article regarding NANO Management Guru C.K. Prahalad gave a term that INNOVATION SANDBOX. According to him in a country like India there would be many constraints particularly when you are working on a product for people at the Bottom of Pyramid. But working under these constraints would help you to come up with something innovative and that's what Mr. Wagh did.
There was sharp reaction from all the automobile giants almost everyone planning to come up with similar project. But after all India has taken the lead and the world has accepted her leadership. Hats off to Mr. Ratan Tata and Er. Girish Wagh
